The Walsh Visa Program is finished recruiting in Ireland & Northern Ireland. The following paragraphs, below, are for information purposes only.
Can I join?
Applicants must be resident in Northern Ireland or one of the designated border counties of the Republic of Ireland for at least 18 months prior to obtaining the visa.
Applicants must be between the ages of 21 and 35 at time of travel to the U.S.
Applicants must be continuously unemployed for 12 out of the last 15 months under the home country definition of unemployment.
Applicants are limited to individuals who do not hold a degree from an institution of higher education.
How do I join?
Contact your local FAS or Department for Employment and Learning (DEL) office and fill out an application for the Walsh Visa Program. This application inculdes questions about past work history, education, goals, interest in the program, and one written reference.
Once admitted into the program a waiver must be signed and returned requesting a certificate from the local police station. At this point in time the applicant should draft a resume.
The applicant then attends the Pre-departure Training Program. Employers will review job descriptions and members from Hub Cities will be on hand to give presentation and answer any questions that the applicants have about the cities. During this training applicants are required to complete community service in the field of conflict resloution. Applications for U.S. Visas are filled out at this point in time and interviews with the U.S. Embassy or U.S. Consulate take place at this time.
Applicants sign a code of conduct and receive a certificate of employment from the U.S. Embassy or U.S. Consulate.
Applicants are then ready to travel to the U.S.
